Nominated by Marcus T., 16: Coach Rivera took over our program four years ago when we were losing every game and half the team was ready to quit. He never once talked about wins. He talked about effort, accountability, and showing up for each other. Three of our players are now on varsity. Two of them had been told they were too small to compete. Coach told them size is just a number.

Nominated by a parent: Sara volunteers her lunch break three days a week to work with runners who need extra time. She has never been paid for it. Last spring she drove two kids to a regional meet herself because their families could not afford the bus. One of them placed second in the 400 meters.

Nominated by a teammate's father: Ray runs the only free soccer program in our township. He organizes car pools, finds equipment donations, and holds practices rain or shine. My son is on the autism spectrum and Ray was the first coach who never made him feel like a problem to be managed. He made him a starter.

Nominated by a former swimmer: Jordan has coached competitive swimming for nine years and never taken a dollar more than the program budget allows. Last year three of his swimmers earned partial college scholarships. He hand-wrote each family a letter when the offers came in.
